God With Us

The most profound mystery of all time is that God Himself would humble Himself, come to earth in human flesh, live a perfect life before all, submit Himself to His enemies in order to absorb in Himself all the wrath of God for every sin ever committed (and will commit), in order to save His people from their sins. All this so that we may live with Him and worship Him forever. But think about that: GOD WITH US. Christ is actually God in human form. Of course this is where the attacks against Christianity start or end up.
When Joshua exhorts God's people prior to their entry into Canaan, he tells them that they will face oppostion that is greater than them. On their own they will not be able to overcome all their enemies. They will not be able to deal with life in a fallen world because they also are fallen. So he says: "The Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you." God gave that promise again and again to His people. But it was not until Christ came that they could actually look at God, touch Him, and hear Him say: "I am with you always, even to the end of the world." Imagine, God Himself saying to your face: "I am with you always, no matter what." For those who know Him by salvation in Christ alone that is a great and precious promise. That makes Christmas the best time of the year (unless maybe it could be Easter).
