This election seemed more intense in ways I do not remember from previous elections. Those who have given their ideas and conclusions regarding this election keep pointing to how divided the nation is. So what are the real issues? It would seem the answer to a nation divided politically would just be that everyone gets on the same page. But whose page? I do not have very many answers, if any. But there are some observations that I think are worth considering.
1. This election did reveal a deeply divided nation. But what are the causes of such
division?
2. The measures passed and candidates elected simply revealed world views.
3. The president is not the problem of our country, nor is it any political party.
4. The president is elected by the people; what people value will be revealed in
their choices of leaders. We cannot blame the media per se or any other factor
because people voted for what rules their hearts.
5. The greatest problem our nation faces is the issue of sin in the hearts of
everyone. This is evidenced in the growing attitude toward the God of the Bible.
And the answer for our sin is Christ.
6. God does not subscribe to a political party. This is difficult for some to grasp.
There are seriously committed believers in Christ in all parties.
7. God is not in the business of making America a Christian nation. Morality is
important but Christ is in the business of calling out a people for His name from
every nation and transforming them into His image.
8. God rules who rules. For us He uses our democratic system to achieve this but He
is not bound by it.
9. God’s purposes for the world must be recognized and aligned with. Fortunately He
has written these down for us.
10.If the election did not go the way you wished, do you express that in gentle,
uncondemning and uncomplaining ways (think: Fruit of the Spirit)?
So the challenge is not "How can we get our people in office?" but "How can we point
people to Christ as He is revealed in the Bible? How can true believers in Christ make known the fragrant aroma of Christ in everything they do and everywhere they go?
